How to Actually Use Every Brush in the Greta Lion Collection

How to Actually Use Every Brush in the Greta Lion Collection

Most brush sets follow the same pattern. Two or three brushes get used every day, and the rest sit in a drawer because nobody quite knows what they're for. The Greta Lion Makeup brush collection was built the other way around. Greta is a professional makeup artist, and the ten brushes in it come from her own working kit – each shape is there because it solves a specific problem on a real face.

Here's what every brush is for, which products it works best with, the order to use them in, and how to keep them in good shape for years.

Why synthetic fibers

All ten brushes use high-quality synthetic fibers rather than natural hair, and that's a deliberate choice, not a cost one.

Natural hair works well with powder, but it absorbs liquids and creams, so a lot of product ends up in the brush instead of on your face. Synthetic fibers don't absorb excess product. They pick it up and lay it down, which means the same brush can handle liquid, cream and powder textures, and your products go further.

The fibers are also gentle on sensitive skin, don't shed, and are easy to clean. That combination is what lets ten brushes do the work of a much larger kit.

The face brushes

1 – Kabuki brush

The universal one. Dense bristles apply both liquid and powder products on the face and body, with smooth, natural coverage. It's the brush to reach for when you want a base to look like skin rather than like makeup.

Use it with: Foundation stick "NEW MOON". Swipe the stick on, then buff in small circles. The density blends the edges away without lifting the product.

2 – Duo Fiber brush

Two types of bristles in one head. The longer fibers pick up a light amount of product, the denser base pushes it into the skin. That makes it ideal for precise, even application of cream, liquid and powder products, and for soft, natural contouring that blends seamlessly into the skin.

Use it with: cream products you want to diffuse rather than place, like Cream blush "SUNDANCE".

3 – Powder brush

Dense and soft, made for powder and for setting makeup. It distributes product evenly and gives you control over intensity – a light sweep for a soft set, more pressure for more coverage.

Use it with: Compact powder "SKIN". Tap off the excess before it touches your face. Most powder mistakes come from too much product on the brush, not from the powder itself.

4 – Contouring brush

Built for defining facial structure. It works with cream and powder formulas, bronzer and blush, and lets you shape the face precisely while keeping the result natural.

Use it with: Bronzer "SUN" or Blush "LADY". Place color where you want definition, then blend upward and outward, never down.

5 – Fan brush (highlighter)

A flat, fan-shaped brush for illuminating products. The spread of the bristles lays highlighter down in a thin, even veil instead of a harsh stripe, for a subtle, natural glow on the cheekbones, the tip of the nose and other high points.

Use it with: Highlighter "STAR". Use the flat side and sweep lightly along the top of the cheekbone.

6 – Concealer brush

Precise enough to place cream or powder concealer exactly where it's needed – dark circles, fine lines, blemishes, redness – without spreading it across areas that don't need it.

Use it with: Concealer "AIRLUME". Dot product on, then press and blend only the edges so the coverage stays where you put it.

The eye, brow and lip brushes

7 – Eyeshadow brush

For applying and blending eyeshadow. The bristles make it easy to combine shades, create seamless transitions and refine contours.

Use it with: Eyeshadow palette "EVERYDAY NUDES". Pack color on the lid, then use the same brush, without adding product, to soften the edge into the crease.

8 – Blending/Detailing brush

A precise brush for softening eyeshadow or eyeliner lines. It's the difference between a line that looks drawn and one that looks finished.

Use it for: smudging liner along the lash line, cleaning up the outer corner, or blurring a hard crease line in two or three small strokes.

9 – Lip brush

Applies and defines lip color with an even edge, for a professional contour and vibrant color payoff. It's especially useful for bolder shades, where a wobbly edge shows immediately.

Use it with: Lip pencil "MOM". Line first, then use the brush to blend the pencil inward so the line doesn't read as a line.

10 – Brow brush

A precision brush for shaping brows and defining the eye contour. Use it to draw sharp lines or fill sparse areas, then blend the product naturally with the spoolie for a soft, even finish.

Use it with: Eyebrow filler "FLUFFY BROW". Short, hair-like strokes in the direction of growth, then one pass with the spoolie to soften.

The order to use them in

  1. Base – Kabuki
  2. Concealer – Concealer brush, on top of the base, not underneath
  3. Cream products – Duo Fiber for cream blush or cream contour
  4. Powder – Powder brush, only where you need it
  5. Bronzer and blush – Contouring brush
  6. Highlighter – Fan brush
  7. Eyes – Eyeshadow brush, then Blending/Detailing for the edges
  8. Brows – Brow brush and spoolie
  9. Lips – Lip brush, last

The general rule behind it: liquids and creams before powders, and face before details. Powder on top of an unblended cream is what creates patchiness.

How to keep them in good shape

With proper care, these brushes stay as good as new for many years. Buildup is what ruins brushes – it stiffens the fibers and makes application uneven long before the brush itself wears out.

  1. Wash weekly, or as needed. Under warm running water, with antibacterial soap or a gentle brush cleanser.
  2. Keep water off the handle. Clean only the bristles. Water running down into the ferrule loosens the glue that holds the fibers.
  3. Blot, don't wring. Gently press out excess water with a clean, soft towel.
  4. Dry flat. Lay the brushes on a towel and let them air-dry naturally so the fibers return to their original shape.
  5. Disinfect once dry. Use a suitable disinfecting product when the brushes are completely dry.
  6. Store clean and dry. And keep them for your own use – sharing brushes spreads bacteria between faces.

Common mistakes

  • Loading too much product on the brush – start with less and build
  • Using the Powder brush for blush, which spreads color too wide
  • Applying highlighter with a dense brush instead of the fan, which leaves a stripe
  • Drying brushes upright, so water runs into the handle
  • Washing only when the brushes look dirty – by then the buildup is already affecting application
